What is Podorozhnyk?
Meaning “by the road” in Ukrainian, “Podorozhnyk” is the name for Plantago major, a species of flowering plantain that grows along the roads all across the country. When we were children, whenever we hurt ourselves playing, we would pick some Podorozhnyk and apply it to our wounds. Speeding up the healing time of our scratches, the Podorozhnik’s anti-inflammatory and blood-clotting properties made it our “emergency aid.”
Today, Ukraine is at war and we, a small team, are now doing what we can to help friends and family who have been forced to defend our country. That’s how the Podorozhnyk charity fund was born. Embodying the cultural significance of the plant, we are growing nearby to provide aid for the warriors fighting to defend our homeland.
